During this pandemic, many tenants want to know can they extend their rent due date or can they just walk away from their contract. The answer is, no. Even though we are in unprecedented times, walking away from a contract because your situation has changed will not work.
Governor DeSantis extended Florida’s Moratorium on evictions yesterday to help tenants with this pandemic. This comes as thousands of Floridians are still out of work and unable to make payments during the pandemic. No one really knows how long this pandemic will last or how new ordinances will affect everyone. Unfortunately, there is no legal precedent for this situation. We do know that this pandemic will affect the way future contracts are written for tenants.
