Does A Step-Parent Have the Right to Make Legal Decisions with Their Step Child?

Being a parent, whether biological, step-parent or adoptive is an honor and a privilege. A parent plays a important and major role in their child’s life and a huge part of that role is making decisions on behalf of their child. Making decisions can be especially difficult when it comes to the role of a stepparent. Stepparents has no legal right to make decisions on behalf of the child’s well-being, without express consent or agreement of the legal parents. They have no say in the child’s medical decisions or educational decisions without the agreement or consent of the legal parents . If a stepparent wishes to have full legal rights, they must either second parent or be appointed his legal guardian.
